LOTRO Server Status

This post will teach you how to add and style your own LOTRO server status box (U.S. servers). Please note, that this script takes data from this web site: http://status.warriorsofnargathrond.com/ and modifies it slightly so you can add your own styling to it. I don't know if writing this script is considered abusing their site, so be warned this status may stop working at any time.

I now have mirror sites at motty.000space.com, motty.heliohost.org and motty.l4rge.com that will make this set up a lot easier.

(NOT WORKING)
US Servers

EU Servers

The Code

The code below is made to go into a free form text/HTML content box on any page you want. You could also use an embedded page type of content box if you wish.

Copy (Ctrl-C) the US or EU (2nd line) code below and paste it (Ctrl-V), while in HTML mode, into a editor.
<center><iframe width="175" height="350" src="http://motty.000space.com/lotro/lotro-eu.php?css=lotro.css" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" align="top" allowtransparency="true"></iframe></center>
Customizing

Notes
  • If you look at the code above you'll see it's just an iframe.
  • Adjust the width and height of the frame by modifying the values in red.
  • The URL is broken into two parts: the green is the base URL that should not change and the orange part is the URL to the CSS.
  • The CSS I made is located in the same directory as the script, but if you want to modify and add your own styling for this status box you'll need to include the full URL to your CSS file.
The CSS
body {
 background-color: #000000;
 margin: 0 auto;
 font-family: Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif;
 color: #dddddd;
 text-align: center;
}
.border {
 width: 175px;
 padding: 5px;
 text-align: left;
 color: #dddddd;
}
.header, .subheading { display: none; }
}
.image { text-align:  right; }
.lastcache { font-size: .5em; }

.up {
 background: url(http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa236/Mottie1/testsite/icons/up.png) no-repeat;
 height: 23px;
 padding-left: 25px;
}
.down {
 background: url(http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa236/Mottie1/testsite/icons/down.png) no-repeat;
 height: 23px;
 padding-left: 25px;
}
  • Copy (Ctrl-C) the above CSS and paste it (Ctrl-V) into your non-rich text editor
  • Modify the background color and text color to match your site.... the .border class in the CSS is actually the table that contains the data.
  • The .header class contains the text "LOTRO Server Checker" - hidden in this CSS.
  • The .subheading class contains the top row of the table that has "server" and "status" above each column - hidden in this CSS.
  • The .image class is the table cell that surrounds the "up" and "down" boxes (original images were removed).
  • The .lastcache class is for the last line of the display that shows the server time of the last information update (every 10 minutes).
  • Modify the .up and .down classes to contain your images for server up and server down respectively.

    • The status images are added as a background, so replace the URL in orange to point to your image.
    • Adjust the height to match the height of your image
    • Adjust the padding-left to match the width (plus a little extra for padding) of your image.
  • Once you have completed modifying the CSS file, save it to your computer as something like "LOTROstatus.css"
  • Upload you CSS file to your file manager
  • Modify the URL of the iframe code above to point to your newly uploaded CSS file:

    http://motty.heliohost.org/lotro/lotro.php?css=http://someURL.com/LOTROstatus.css
Edit (9/16/2009): Updated the script to cache the server status for 10 minutes... so as not to overwhelm and piss off the people at warriorsofnargathrond.com. I also added a .lastcache class - you only need to add this class to your CSS for this update.
Edit (9/18/2009): Changed the filename on the server to lotro.php, since I'm lazy and it was easier to type
Edit (10/1/2009): Added LOTRO European server information.
Edit (7/6/2010): Added note about US data possibly being blocked and added strikethrough to alternate servers (000space is the only working one now).

I updated the code on the site to cache the data it retrieves from warriorsofnargathrond.com every 10 minutes... I did this to keep from overwhelming or pissing off the providers of that site.

There is also a new class to add to the CSS - "lastcache" that styles the text at the bottom of the window ( which you may not see if you set the height to 340, so no biggie )

If you've already started using this code before this post, all you need to update is the CSS class (if you want to).

*NOTE* I just started teaching myself php (the language that allows me to provide this server status), so if anyone else needs a server status box.... *blink*

I haven't had a chance to dig in depth as to the problem, but the LOTRO US server doesn't appear to be working anymore. The script hasn't changed, so right now I can only assume that my site has been blocked from accessing it. I will try to figure out a better alternative when I get a chance.
