Was wondering if anyone knew how, or if it was possible to create a mouse over. For example, i would like to post a forum thread and in that thread would like to use an emoticon that when moused over would provide information, instead of having it all just typed in.

 We use biggrins and angry faces to show guild progression thru raid instances, and would like to be able to mouse over these emotes to list the group that downed a boss and the date.

  is it possible, without having a webmasters degree?

There are two ways you can show information, both are built into GuildPortal.

Using the tooltip --> hover over this: , or this: "Blah blah blah..."
  • Add the following to make it work:

    <span class="tooltip" title="<div class=tooltipheader>HEADER</div>Blah blah blah... put info here" rel="300">
    <img src="http://admins.guildportal.com/Faces/face_grin.gif">
    </span>

    <span class="tooltip" title="<img src=http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa236/Mottie1/SMRT.jpg>" rel="80">Blah blah blah...</span>

  • The text in green is what is seen in the tooltip, you can add any HTML you want (like the <div class=tooltipheader>... </div> is what adds style to the top. I added a second example with an image, make sure you don't use quotes.

  • The number in red sets the width of your tooltip window

  • The orange text is to your emote/text... sadly, it doesn't appear that you can add emotes anywhere but in the forums.
Using the Popup window --> click on this: , or this: Blah Blah Blah
  • Add the following to make it work:

    <a href="#info1" rel="facebox"><img src="http://admins.guildportal.com/Faces/face_devil.gif"></a>
    <div style="display:none;">
    <div id="info1">
    <strong>Header</strong><br>
    Blah blah blah...
    More info about this...

    </div>
    </div>

    <a href="#info2" rel="facebox">Blah Blah Blah</a>
    <div style="display: none;">
    <div id="info2">
    <center><img src="http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/aa236/Mottie1/SMRT.jpg"></center>
    </div>
    </div>

  • Same as above, the text in green shows up in the popup window

  • The orange text is where you put your emote/text.

  • If you add more than one of these to the page, change the ID in blue... make an info2, info3... etc.

  • See this post about changing the style of the box, styles inside and dimming the area outside the box
Edit (1/1/09): Added examples with text and image popups.
Edit (1/24/09): Added the script needed to add the tooltips back.
Edit (1/4/11): Updated tooltip example to use the current tooltip method.

You could also insert the image, right click and click Set Image Properties. In the Image Alt Text line, enter the information:

Raid completed! Mottie Rules!  <--- mouse over

Edit: Mottie's version is cooler looking.

Edit2: Before the question comes up, make sure to switch to HTML mode ( in the bottom left corner of the editor) PRIOR to pasting Mottie's code.

I know you've mentioned it before but i can't seem to find it.

Here is what im using the facebox's for:

http://testament.guildportal.com/Guild.aspx?GuildID=285452&TabID=2396978

Question is how do i add scroll bars to the facebox, roughly 800px in length?

Any updates on the guildbar?

I was able to get the mouse over to work.  But when I try to get the pop-up to work on my event's page, you click on the icon and all that pops up is a white box with nothing in it.  I copied the code exactly the way it was written so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
