Sorry if this page is too big, I had to add it as a frame to maintain the functionality. This post is basically to help visualize all the current usable CSS elements that GuildPortal has as of June 2008. It doesn't do anything but highlight the area assigned to the CSS.Each CSS element can have numerous properties including border color & styles, text color & stlyes, background color, font styles, etc. For a full list of CSS properties, click this linkTo go directly to the embeded page, click here

That rocks, Mottie! The mouse-over visualizations of the CSS elements in the right column is extremely helpful!

Before I was just playing hit or miss and learning on the fly and taking hours to learn it all. With this, it really makes things a snap!

This would be a great addition to the GP Manual (and at the least be stickied here) to help new and existing site Admins understand and apply CSS customization like a pro! Heck, you should have your own chapter in it!

Thank you, Mottie!

I updated this since I forgot to add AltGridRow to the Forums Messages section.

One of these days when I have more time, I'll add something similar to show all the elements with an "ID" that can be modified (the above post only shows defined classes) - you know like the "#dhtmltooltip" that everyone sees in their CSS.

Fingers of Fury!

OK, It's time I gave Mottie his props! First his test site is great for finding out to do stuff! Second, his forum entries are amazing! Third, 2 months ago, I did not know a css from a csa!
His guidance and forum entries now have me making my own graphic templates, uber boxes for my site, and one of the most interactive sites you'll find here! For this week, Ill let down my guard, and allow the public to take a tour through this site!

If you love something, set it free! If it doesn't come back; hunt it down, and kill it!

Becoming Adept!

Mottie is a true legend, just 5 days ago I had never heard the term css and now I have created this

I used a screenshot so future readers of this thread can see what is possible in just a few days & with no prior knowledge of css

Here is the site, if you want to have a browse around then feel free, I'm sure it will keep evolving as time goes by, it needs a footer & a couple of other minor tweaks but overall I pretty much achieved the look I was after

Next thing we need from you Mottie is a guide on how you made this guide, this would be perfect for showing some of the *cough* simpler guild members how to use things like the events calender for example

I made this guide (the highlighting boxes) using javascript from this site... check out the examples on the main page and on this page. It's pretty cool. For the CSS page I made here, I only used "cvimaplib.js".

One minor drawback to the script is that you are limited to only one color for highlighting per image. The biggest problem is that it's very complicated to set up, even after reading all the instructions that the site provides you'll probably still be a little confused - I know I was! I ended up using Dreamweaver to do the actual image area mapping, but I had to do a lot of manual editing to get everything just right.

I don't really want to make a tutorial for this, since it's not for the common user (and it'll be a big headache too LOL)... but if you read through the instructions and look at the page source of CSS.htm, you should be able to figure out how to do it. But if I get enough people are interested, I'll try to work on some simplified instructions.
